It all started with tupperware

Amy, from Amyscreativeside.com, is hosting a Blogger's Quilt Festival to coincide with Quilt Market. To see some amazing quilts by bloggers everywhere, click on the link below:

Amy's Creative Side

I'm pretty sure that my love of orange is directly related to my love of all things from the 1970s.

What really epitomizes the color palette for me is, and always has been, my mom's funky set of tupperware:

I've always loved this set!
It's still in pristine condition, too. That handle really keeps the set together.

My name is on the bottom of the yellow bowl, made with a labelmaker much like this one:
I can't think of one thing that wasn't labeled with that label maker.

Coming up with a palette for a quilt for myself wasn't too hard. I usually start with orange.
Above is a shot of all of the blocks together, but not in the final arrangement.
Below, all set together:

The best part of this quilt, tho, isn't the color palette.
(even tho they're all my favorites)

The best part about this quilt is that it is just my second quilt hand-quilted piece.

And, it is the quilt that brought all of these fabulous people together to put it in a frame and help me start hand quilting.

We put it up in the driveway - on my grandmother's frame.
We used the quilt stands my granddad made.

Above, the backing is pinned to the boards first.
Then (below) the batting and top are attached.
And the quilting began.

These two great gals took me into their quilting circle!

Some quilt-enthusiasts showed up to support us:

Here's a great picture of one of my grams' best pals, showing me how it's done:

It was a perfect day to start a fun 70's tupperware-inspired quilt!

Particulars: 42 blocks, log cabiny, cotton batting
Progress to date: 29.5 blocks complete, binding machine-stitched to the backside.

Orange Light District

Today's score from an antique store: a lamp made just for me.

It's orange. And yellow.

The woman who sold it to me explained, "You don't see a lot of orange lamps..."

I agreed, paid, smiled, and went home.

Reproduction 1930's Fabrics Project: Hourglass

Here's a shot of the Repro Hourglass quilt in-progress.
These lovely prints were a gift from a fellow quilter.
Last night, I finished 53. Only 100 more to do!
There's a few other colors not represented in this photo... more coming soon.

Each hourglass is about 8 inches square.
I expect the finished project to be a queen-size.
Now, to pick a fabric for the back!

New Fabrics Delivered!

I just received some new fabrics from my favorite online fabric store.
Beautiful prints without a purpose-

The photo above is Meadowsweet by Sandi Henderson.
The photo below is Hope Valley by Denyse Schmidt.

Oh! The possibilities!

Orange Crush: FINISHED!

My glorious orange crush quilt is finally finished!
This one's going on my bed ;)
The gals at Melear's Fabrics did another fine
job quilting this on their longarm.

Here's a close-up of the quilting.
She used one of my favorite designs - the "wishbone."

Here's what I chose for the backing.
It's yellow with a pink design -
but it reads as orange.

This was the first time I'd pieced the binding with different fabrics.
I had some left over from the blocks and supplemented
with some bonus orange & white polka-dots.
The photo above shows the polka-dots.
I think I like it more than a one-pattern binding.
Check it out:

Orange Crush

Orange Crush piecing is complete!
Now, to decide how it will be quilted....

Here's a close up of 4 of the 49 blocks.
All of the pieces are modern prints except one vintage print from my mom's pal.
(the vintage piece is with the red/orange flower found in the top left and bottom right in this photo)

Here's the finished top:

Sneak Peek: Orange Crush

After two years of hording luxurious orange fabrics, I have started my orange quilt!

I will call it, "orange crush."

Here's a shot of the fabrics lined up before ironing.
After this photo, I bought three more orange prints from the local quilting shop.

Here are some of the patches lined up on the ironing board:

Oh, orange! How I love you!

A four pack of quilts back from the quilter!

Just back from the quilter today are my four latest creations:
"the orange project," bubbles and patches, 9patch cowboys, and another plainspoken. I think the plainspoken is a design that will be with me for a while.
These were, again, quilted by Melear Fabrics. Great job, again!
All four have flannel on the back to make them warm and luxurious.

There is orange flannel on the backside of this one. It's a Denyse Schmidt design.
Each piece is crooked! It made me cry a little bit.

There is light-green flannel on the back side of this one! It was a quilt-kit from Connecting Threads, made with 2.5 jelly rolls.

The 9-patches were given to me from a friend... you can't see it too well on this photo, but some of the fabric prints have cowboys on it! Yeha! I put forest green flannel on the back.

This last one has chocolate flannel on the back. This plainspoken is starting to be a fav! It's all in the palatte!
These four will be christmas gifts!!!!!
Last year, I took the handmade pledge and failed miserably! I was able to do about 10% of the gifts by hand.
This year, I've taken it again, and have pledged for 100%.
I hope I make it to 60%!

Christmas, I'm ready for you!

"Hop, Skip, & a Jump" or "The Orange Project"

I've started a new project: "Hop, Skip, & a Jump" from Denyse Schmidt's designs.
Lots of crooked strips in orange, my precious, precious, orange!
I'm loving it so far:

Each piece is a different size and are labeled so I don't get them mixed up - which is very easy to do.
