Here is my entry for the quilt blogger festival.
This quilt is special to me because it marked a turning point in my own sewing.
My grandmother taught me to sew and the joy of making quilts. For years, I had been working hard and improving my skills, but it wasn't until the few quilt tops leading up to this one and this quilt that I believe my grandmother was proud of my sewing.
Throughout my apprenticeship with grams, she was part of a hand-quilting network of women in the community. She would tell me about it, but it was this quilt top that she allowed to be hand-quilted by her group.
Here's some photos of the quilt in the frame - with me and grams at the library where she quilted:
And the finished product, with prairie points:
This is a lovely quilt, congratulations:)
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother taught me to sew too and I am forever thinking of her, missing her and being so grateful for her. We are lucky for our grandmas!

That is a fantastic quilt. I love the colour combinations; very rich and comforting.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations.........how nice to please Grandma !
ReplyDeleteHow nice that you can share with your grandmother and she can pass quilting on to you.
ReplyDeleteOh, those pictures brought back memories. In my memory book is a small maybe 5 X 7 little quilt my gramma helped me do when only about eight. The stitches are big. I've a quilting frame in my basement much like those in the pictures on your blog. It's how I first learned how to hand quilt. Then for expediency tying a quilt or a quilt sandwich which was really only two sheets with batting in between...Oh I could go on and on...thanks for the memories and good luck to you and your own quilt journey!
ReplyDeleteWonderful grandma, wonderful quilt. Love all the prairie points, they really set this quilt apart!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quilt and memory. My grandmother also sewed, but she made all our clothing including prom dresses and suits for homecoming... She didn't quilt though, but was proud of my sewing,,
ReplyDeleteWow, what a neat story. It's always a turning point when you earn the approval of a grandparent!
